I´m no magician – Gattuso calls for calm after Milan derby triumph

AC Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso insists he is no magician and has called for some perspective after his side s Coppa Italia victory over city rivals Inter.

An extra-time goal from Patrick Cutrone secured a 1-0 win at San Siro on Wednesday and sent Milan into the semi-finals, where they will meet Lazio.

The win gave Rossoneri fans something to celebrate during another difficult season, with their side having lost their last two Serie A games without scoring a goal to find themselves 11th in the table.

But Gattuso says one result will not change everything for the club ahead of a tricky visit to Fiorentina on Saturday.

I m no magician, he told a news conference. It was a very difficult game but we need to take things one match at a time. We need to keep work…

Moyes sees Everton similarities at Sociedad

David Moyes has drawn comparisons between Real Sociedad and Everton as he prepares to lead his new club for the first time.

The Scot took charge at Anoeta last week, making his return to football management following an ill-fated spell as Alex Ferguson s successor at Manchester United.

Moyes reign starts at Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday, and the 51-year-old believes the job that lies ahead is similar to the one he took on at Everton, where he spent 11 years from 2002 to 2013.

There s a lot of similarities between this club and Everton when I took over Everton, he told Sky Sports. They are maybe just at the wrong end of the table [Sociedad sit 15th].

Obviously, I can see things what need to be done and redeveloped which we did at Everton. It took time t…

Ambrosini leaves Fiorentina

Massimo Ambrosini has announced that he has left Fiorentina after just a single season with the Serie A club.

The veteran midfielder made 21 league appearances for the Stadio Artemio Franchi outfit after calling time on his 18-year Milan career at the end of the 2012-13 campaign.

However, in a press conference on Tuesday, Ambrosini confirmed that he would not be spending a second season in Florence.

I m here today to announce that my time with Fiorentina has come to an end, he said. I want to thank the city of Florence. It s been an exceptional, wonderful year and I ve met some amazing people.

I wish my team-mates all the very best of luck for next season.

And the 36-year-old believes his future may now lie outside his homeland.

I want to give my fut…

Liverpool to battle West Ham in the race to sign Song

Liverpool are ready to make an £11.5m move for on-loan West Ham United midfielder Alex Song, .

The ex-Arsenal man has been at Upton Park since the summer, and has been one of the stand-out performers in Sam Allardyce’s side helping them to seventh place in the table.

He has made fifteen appearances for the Hammers in all competitions and has already started as many league games this season as he did for parent club Barcelona in the 2013/14 campaign.

His future at the Nou Camp appears to be over, so a permanent transfer away from the Catalan club this month seems highly likely.

West Ham are keen to keep hold of the Cameroon international, but will face stiff competition from Liverpool who are looking for a long term replacement for outgoing captain…

World Cup qualifiers; Who’s Hot and who’s Not?

After the latest round of international matches I thought I would have a look at who’s hot and who’s not. I might be looking at the games with a warm glow after a certain team s performance in Croatia but I don t think I ve let it affect my judgement! 🙂

Hot team
I honestly never thought I would say this, but it has to go to England! Let me say it just once more. The hot team award goes to England. I ve never heard anything like that before. Wonderful! The quality of the performance in Croatia as well as the extraordinary result of a 4-1 win, was one of the best I have seen from an international side for a long time. Passing, movement, purpose, cohesion. No, it can t have been England.

Not hot team
I m really sorry about this becaus…

Lukaku tipped for ´big things´ by United team-mate Matic

Romelu Lukaku has been backed to achieve big things at Manchester United by team-mate Nemanja Matic.

The Belgium international, a reported £75million signing from Everton last July, has scored 21 goals in all competitions for Jose Mourinho s side in a solid first season at Old Trafford.

Question marks remain over Lukaku s performances against elite opposition, though, with the 24-year-old having failed to score against any of the Premier League s top eight in 2017-18.

However, ahead of Sunday s clash with former club Chelsea, Matic has tipped Lukaku to enjoy a successful career in the north west.

Romelu is a great striker, the United midfielder told Sky Sports.

For a young player, it s not an easy situation because everyone expects you to score…

Warnock hits back at QPR chairman

Former QPR boss Neil Warnock has dismissed criticism of his transfer dealings from the club s chairman Tony Fernandes.

QPR s relegation from the Premier League was confirmed following a 0-0 draw with Reading on Sunday and Fernandes has since singled out mistakes made when the club were promoted in 2011 as the reason.
Warnock was the man at the helm during that transfer window and was sacked midway through the 2011-12 campaign due to disappointing results.
But the 64-year-old has launched a defence of his record, claiming the transfers were largely out of his control.
We had been promoted at the beginning of May and we couldn t sign a player, he told Sky Sports News Radio.
Other clubs Swansea, Norwich were signing players that I wanted to sign and gradually they were all gone…

Carragher slams ´embarrassing´ Man Utd over failed Rabiot and De Jong moves

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has labelled Manchester United s conduct in the transfer window as embarrassing .

United sit bottom of the infant Premier League table after back-to-back defeats to Brighton and Brentford, with unrest among the supporters being widely documented as they push for the removal of the Glazers ownership.

Frustration has also stemmed in the transfer market, where United have struggled to land their top targets and have seen a hunt for a new midfielder receive widespread criticism.

Erik ten Hag s side had agreed a deal with Juventus for Adrien Rabiot but pulled out due to the Frenchman s wage demands, while they have chased Barcelona s Frenkie de Jong throughout the summer without making a breakthrough.

United are now wi…

Barcelona equal LaLiga´s all-time unbeaten record with win over Leganes

Barcelona have equalled LaLiga s all-time record of 38 matches unbeaten after Lionel Messi inspired their 3-1 victory over Leganes on Saturday.

Real Sociedad initially set the record in May 1980, with their run starting 13 months earlier.

But Barcelona stand on the brink of surpassing them after extending their incredible streak at Camp Nou, with Ernesto Valverde s men continuing their surge towards the league title.

Messi fittingly marked the occasion with a hat-trick, finding the net twice in the first half including a glorious free-kick before rounding out the scoring in the 87th minute.

Barca last suffered defeat in LaLiga way back on April 8 2017, when they travelled to Malaga and succumbed to a 2-0 loss former academy player Sandro Ramirez and Jon…
